Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course Host of the 2012 PGA
1,700 spots have already been claimed of the total number of 3,000 volunteers that will be needed to help run Charleston’s major golf tournament next August.
There is still time to apply online to play a behind-the-scenes roles in the Championship to be held August 6-12 2012. The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort will need volunteers to serve on more than 40 committees with tasks ranging from contestant transportation, merchandise operations, leader boards, media center registration, marshals and more.
Volunteers must pay a $217 fee and are asked to work a minimum of 16 hours, but they do gain access to the tournament site for all seven days of the event, meal vouchers, off-site parking with shuttle service, volunteer uniform, discounted rates, including up to three guests, at all five of Kiawah island Golf Resort’s courses and more.
According to the College of Charleston School of Business study, the 2012 PGA Championship tournament is expected to have a positive impact of $92 million on the economy of the area as a result of the more than 50,000 visitors who will attend.
